Walk into any bar or restaurant in Eastern North Carolina featuring live music and
chances are the melodic riffs of the guitar and resonating voice you hear is Stretch.
Vocally a high baritone compared to a finely tuned mix between Eddie Vedder and
Edwin McCain, Stretch has played over 650 shows since 2005. This also being a
breakthrough year for the six foot eight inch tall musician starting a career filled with
opportunities to open for national and international acts ranging from modern chart
toppers Natasha Bedingfield, Edwin McCain, Rehab, Drake Bell, Cracker, Afroman,
and Bowling for Soup to southern rock legends including the Marshall Tucker Band,
Blackfoot, Johnny Winter and Devon Allman's (son of Greg Allman) band Honeytribe.
Stretch has also been fortunate to share the stage and be accompanied by several
regional musicians including Parmalee, Chris "Critty" Robinson, Pat Edwards, Josh
Bertram, Josh Taylor, and Nick Bertram.
Born to nurse, Jill and United States Marine Corp. Col. Ben Mayer, he is only known as
Bryan to childhood friends and family. Locally Stretch is sponsored by the popular
eastern North Carolina radio station Bob 93.3 which can be heard from Virginia Beach
to Wilmington. Starting this fall he will be a feature on the station every Friday with Gina
Gray called the "Stretch Remix After Six" where he will spoof a popular song. These
songs can be downloaded by clicking on the Bob-Cast at www.Bob 933.com, or heard
live every Friday after six o'clock p.m. Two songs are available now! He recently
performed at the Bob 93.3 event "Bob the Love Bug Giveaway and Free Gas for a
Year" featuring Charlotte's Ace and T.J. of the nationally syndicated morning show of
the same name. Stretch is also sponsored by Miller Lite and Rock Star Energy Drink
and has been known to throw T-shirts, hats and beaded necklaces to the crowds
featuring some of their favorite beverages. On occasion one or two Miller Lite girls
have also been known to stop by a show!
"2006 Best Unsigned Artist" was awarded to Stretch by the listeners of local radio
stations 96.3 and 103.7 the Hot FM and he received a "HOt F-Emmy". Stretch has also
been featured on local and regional television shows including Fox's A.M. Scuttlebutt,
and Good Morning Eastern North Carolina on WCTI-12. He is well on his way to
greater career accomplishments. At his shows you will hear Stretch play a wide range
of cover songs including music by the Dave Mathews Band to Motley Crue and
everything in between. Regulars at his shows can recall the lyrics to the captivating
guitar ballad "One Last Time" and during the crowd favorite "Fallen" everyone's lips are
moving along. One thing many people don't know is Stretch also plays the piano and
enjoys writing and recording songs this way. On his label Soundcheck Entertainment
Stretch is currently recording his first album produced by Barry Knox, bassist for the
band Parmalee in Greenville, N.C. including the piano track "Thinking of You". Nick
Bertram, percussionist, friend and film major from New Bern, N.C. and graduate of
East Carolina University is producing a documentary in the studio while Stretch records.
When not at a show the husband and father of two enjoys his classic car collection
which includes a 1962 Corvette convertible, a 1975 Cadillac Sedan Deville, and a
1978 Ford LTD coupe. He and his family share a quiet life on the lazy Neuse River in
Bridgeton, N.C. On a hot summer day you can catch Stretch wake boarding and
boating on the river with family and friends and later at a local eatery or bar to start the
evening's entertainment. His wife Sami jokes, "He has the best job, he plays all day and
he plays all night." Only she's not joking when it comes to her husband's career, just
very supportive. Every once in a while you can catch the petite blonde in the crowd at a
show dancing and singing along with friends. Stretch's children may also be following
his musical lead. His daughter Anna, a ninth grader, is performing this year in the color
guard with the West Craven High School Marching Band. Eleven year old Bodi has
been taking drum lessons from local music teacher Steve Smith for two years and tried
out and made percussion at West Craven Middle School, he also plays piano.
Stretch has had a record number of shows this summer and even traveled to Syracuse,
N.Y. to play a private party hosted by BMX legend Dave Mirra. He has many special
projects in the works including a fall trip to Los Angeles with Mirra to record a spot for
the cable television show "The Daily Habit" on Fuel TV and of course the much
anticipated release of his CD. Every August Stretch returns to the stage of the Annual
Cystic Fibrosis Telethon in New Bern, N.C. sponsored by WCTI-12. This year he sang
his latest single "Sons and Daughters" to be released on his website
www.stretchlive.com next month. Hometown weddings, local bars, restaurants and
private parties are just a few of the venues where you will find Stretch - including one
private party recently where Stretch was asked to participate in a game called "Hide
the Honda" on fifteen acres - no event is too small for this big voice. The gig he's
looking forward to the most this fall - singing a song or two for his sister Jennifer at her
November wedding to fiancé Grayson.
It's September and time to be outdoors in Eastern North Carolina. The weather is
perfect - the sky is bright and the beaches are hopping and the suns rays are still warm
with leftovers from a summer over much too soon and you don't have anything to do
tonight. . . . Why not check your favorite bar or restaurant in Eastern N.C. that's featuring
live music. Sitting on a stage high above the crowd, or just sitting on a barstool eye
level with you on the boardwalk overlooking the crystal coast - Stretch is probably close
by - and sure to entertain!
